17/04/19: Day Seven


Today's goals:

  • SFX (Jump & Coin Collect)
  • Save Data
  • Load Data
  • W1L1 (Level One)
  • W1L2 (Level Two: Design and Implementation)

Today is the day before Cuphead's release on Switch; which I am looking forward to. Today is also the day that virtually all core gameplay elements have been finalized ready for release. The majority of my work from now until deadline day is based around finishing off some artwork, level design and creation and music/SFX.

Speaking of SFX, I used BFXR for the first time today and managed to create two SFX for my game; jumping and collecting coins; which I am pleased with the result. I implemented these into the game, just to refresh my previous knowledge of the Unity sound engine. With these implemented, I extensively tested; to ensure I had no issues.

Saving and Loading game data has also been implemented; which will allow players to leave their game without having to redo levels to get back to their last point of play. This was a huge part of my plan; since I have been looking for a practical way to practice with this system. The next step for this is to add an option to enable auto save and to add a save button or key press; which will likely be within the level select menu.

I have completed the layout implementation for W1L2 and just have enemies and coins; also a hidden collectable; to implement. Once this has been achieved I will be designing W1L3 and W1L4; which is part of my MVP for this game jam.

Tomorrow I plan to (try) make a game OST; which should consist of 2 - 3 songs. These songs will likely be loopable and simplistic peices; as I have no musical knowledge or experience. I believe the music will be the worst aspect of my game.
